The Disco Express that is Jacques Renault blew through Baja and Alta California this weekend. I went down to San Diego to meet up with Jacques and then went south to explore Tijuana and Puerto Nuevo. Baja Jesus, lobster, delicious margaritas, penthouse views of the border, and a great venue made out of shipping containers was some of the stuff we encountered. Wrapped up the weekend with a set at the Do Over, where Jacques spun an early evening set that had the crowd strutting and swaying. More photos after the jump. Read More
First Came “Day” And Now It’s “Night”
“Night,” the second half of Poolside’s “Day & Night” mixtape, is now available to download from their Soundcloud. More smooth sounds from the daytime disco dandies, but this mix is more geared for the discotheques than the pool. Expect to hear sets like “Night” when Filip & Jeff head out on tour this summer, with gigs in New York, Texas, Arizona, Canada, and more to be announced.
“Exitos” Launches With Poolside
One of the features on the new EPR site will be a mixtape series called “Exitos” which will feature contributions from EPR family and friends. To celebrate our new site, in the month of June we’ll have exclusive new mixes from Jacques Renault, DJ Lengua, B.C. and Delivery, and Mike Simonetti. To kick off Exitos we asked Poolside’s Filip and Jeff to make a mix for us, which is also their first as Poolside. Titled “Day & Night,” it’s almost two hours of sunny slow jams that precede the evening’s clubbier fare. The first half, Day, is available to download below from Poolside’s Soundcloud.

Fred Ventura Does It Better
We’re very excited to announce that Italians Do It Better will be releasing the first proper retrospective of the Italian singer Fred Ventura. An almost mythical figure among DJs and record collectors, Fred’s ’80s material has long been out of print, and in some cases never officially released. Four years ago, Fred sent a MySpace message to Chromatics, and a friendship was struck up between Fred and Johnny Jewel. Fred has since given Johnny access to his vast library, and for the last few years Johnny has been making new mixes and edits of the material. We’ve just received the mastered versions of Fred’s Italians releases, and they sound big and beautiful. An EP of Fred’s will be released in July and a full album of his work will be put out later this summer. We can’t wait for everyone to hear Fred’s music and for Fred to get the attention he deserves.
